NBA Miami at Detroit (1:00 PM ET ABC)

2007-03-28

With the playoffs just a couple of weeks away, there is no better time to get in on the NBA action. The best teams are fighting for playoff positioning and those on the outside looking in are just looking for an invite to the postseason party. Two of the former in the Eastern Conference square off today in the first game of an ABC doubleheader as Detroit hosts Miami.

Miami had a magnificent March and hopes to be nobody's fool with the advent of April. What has been especially impressive is how the Heat have manufactured victories. No Dwyane Wade or three point expert Jason Kapono, and Alonzo Mourning has been in and out of the line-up with a bum knee during this hot stretch. Shaquille O'Neal may no longer be the force he was in his Lakers days; instead he is a far more intelligent player and finds the open man as Miami's offensive attack has become more balanced. For a team of Detroit's standing in the NBA, they have a mediocre home record, winning just over 60% of the time. The Pistons have been particularly ineffective as a home favorite, like they will be today, covering less than 40% of all games played at The Palace. Last year's Eastern finalists have split this season's meetings; however this will be the first regular season meeting in Mo-Town since March 22, 2006. The Pistons have been at full throttle with 7-2 and 6-3 ATS record over Miami over the last three plus seasons. Detroit motors past Heat with a 4th quarter win. Prediction Detroit by 6
