A Knick

2007-02-15

Last night had a full slate of college and NBA action. To be honest though, there weren't any games I was in love with. I knew I'd be up pretty late so I decided I would get some action on the one game I cared about, my Knicks traveling to LA to take on Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. The Knicks are my favorite NBA team and the Lakers were struggling, losing 7 of their last 10 games. Plus, I can't stand Kobe Bryant, so I decided to take the Knicks. The Knicks were getting 7.5 points in this contest so I knew I had a good chance. I decided on a trifecta of action. Here were my picks:

Knicks +7.5
Knicks +285 to win outright
The over of 203

Yes, I picked the Knicks to win. I like doing this because they usually pay pretty good money when they do manage to squeak out a win. If they win one of every three games they are underdogs, then I break even. If they got hot at some point, I make even better money.

The Knicks certainly played well in this game, shooting 50 percent and committing only 11 turnovers, remember, they lead the league in turning the ball over. Eddy Curry and Jamal Crawford came up big late as Curry's basket with 46.8 seconds left gave the Knicks a 105-104 lead, but Kobe Bryant made a jumper with 29.9 seconds remaining to put the Lakers back on top. Then, in a flash, Quentin Richardson missed a 3-pointer, but David Lee got the rebound and passed to Crawford, who made a move toward the basket before lobbing the ball to Curry for the winning points.

The Lakers still had a chance and Lamar Odom had the ball with 7 seconds left. Rather than look for Kobe, he hogged the ball and ended the game on an airball.

Crawford led the Knicks with 24 points. Richardson had 19 points and 12 rebounds, Curry had 19 points and seven rebounds, Channing Frye added 14 points and seven rebounds and Lee scored 12 for New York, which has won three of its last four games.

Bryant led Los Angeles with 31 points and seven rebounds. Maurice Evans had 16 points and Odom had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who lost their season-high fourth straight in their first home game since completing an eight-game road trip.

So I got a win, some money and my Knicks were victorious. Three for three makes for a good day.

Till next time, may all your bets be winners.
